Moku Roots cuisine is a myriad of Maui's wild flavors, creative takes on the classics, and unique plant based options for the conscious consumer to feel not only satisfied, but blown away.  

 

We believe that eating seasonally and sustainably supports our local farmers and businesses, and just as importantly provides our guests with the most delicious, nutrient-dense food possible.

We have always been relentless about growing, foraging and sourcing the highest integrity local ingredients. Our first farm, Mala ‘Akala, located in beautiful Launiupoko, served the original Lahaina Moku Roots Restaurant with a bounty of fresh, organically managed fruits and vegetables for over 5 years. Our recently started, even bigger Kula farm offers a whole new chapter of growth for Moku Roots, and farm to table food options on Maui!

We know how limiting eating out can be when you're living with food allergies or intolerances- so we strive to make things easier and more enjoyable for you.

 

We have so many gluten free and nut free options!  Though we are not a completely gluten free or tree nut free kitchen.

(We make all of our own bread in house, and use locally grown macadamia nuts in many items, so cross contamination is possible.)

If you have a food allergy, PLEASE TELL US when you order so we can take every precaution! 

DELICIOUSLY CLEAN FOOD FOR EVERYONE

  • Gluten- Many delicous GF meals, breads + desserts!

  • Dairy- Completely dairy free!

  • Soy- We rarely use or make tofu, but occasionally use wheat free tamari

  • Sugar- Many sugar free options. We use only organic cane or coconut sugar, agave, maple and/or honey. 

  • Corn- Corn free with the exception of organic corn starch or organic masa

  • Are We Vegan? All vegan/plant based EXCEPT the occasional use of local honey, or farm fresh eggs as a brunch option!

What started as a zero waste restaurant continues the journey of sustainability by committing to reusable containers for all food and product orders. All food waste from our farm events is composted,  going straight back to the land to continue feeding the farm and our community.

THE FUTURE OF MOKU

Though the devastating event of August 2023 was a giant setback for our new location on Front Street, we, too, are choosing to rebuild as Lahaina gradually recovers. 

As Maui heals over the next couple years, you can look forward to an expanded restaurant, venue and zero waste market on the north tip of Front Street, to one day welcome locals and visitors to a restored Lahaina, and a new, improved Moku Roots. 

HOW IT ALL STARTED

As a vegetarian for over 15 years, Moku Roots owner/operator, Alexa Caskey used to struggle to find interesting vegetarian options on Maui. Both an artist and entreprenuer, she began honing her talents in the kitchen as she started a gourmet popsicle company, Maui Tropsicles, in 2015. 

 

Alexa then quickly felt the urge to create an entire restaurant AND farm that offers a creative, seasonal, plant based menu to keep things exciting for locals and visitors. Now,  with her constant drive and green thumb comes the next chapter of Moku Roots. Stay tuned!
