If you are a vegetarian or just like to eat healthy, Moku Roots is the go-to vegetarian restaurant on Maui. Our ingredients are primarily grown local at Mala ‘Akala Farms just 6 miles away so we are truly farm to table. We are proud of what we do so if you want to know where a specific ingredient comes from, just ask.
We cannot wait for the day when straws are a thing of the past! When you think about it…What is the point? If you’re really that adamant about sipping your drink through one, be adamant about saving the planet and countless marine creatures and wildlife too and bring your own (: You can even get creative and self-expressive when it comes to toting around your personal, individualized straw. Really, the possibilities are endless! Think papaya stem, bamboo shoot, or even a reusable metal or glass straw!
Maui is a place that most anything can not only grow — but thrive! When you look around, you’re bound to see a towering mango tree, a rambling lilikoi vine, or a ripe bunch of bananas. Since Maui has a wide range of micro-climates, that translates to a wide range of fruits and vegetables that can be grown locally.
When designing our menu at Moku Roots we did so with two main considerations.
One, we wanted to create recipes based around Maui grown produce and re-design classic recipes to feature local ingredients instead of whatever store bought ingredients they typically contain. The taro burger is a great example of the former and our yuca-based (and garbanzo free.. where on earth are garbanzos from anyways??) falafel is one of the latter.
